How to Join the Rome Virtual Race

holiday challenge

As a part of the 2018 Holiday Challenge, we are excited to announce a FREE virtual race through Rome! Walk or run past iconic landmarks and quaint cafes all the way to the finish line at the Colosseum (a 26.2 mile route – a full marathon!). Bring your motivation to maintain your weight this holiday season to a whole new level.

The race will run from November 19 – December 17 but you can join at any time, registration does not close.

How it works:

  • Click the “Register Now” button below.
    • Enter coupon code MAINTAIN ($11 value) to register unless you have been given a company-specific coupon code.
  • Log your intentional walking, jogging, or exercise miles (NOT general steps from a Fitbit, see below to learn more).
  • Catch a 360-Google Street view of your virtual locale in Rome, then cheer on your fellow racers through the group message board.
  • Optional: Join a race group (ex. your worksite). Joining or forming a group is a great way to stay motivated! If you registered with a company-specific coupon code, you will automatically be included in your worksite group. Learn how to join or create a group.
  • New this year – activity conversion! You can now convert other forms of physical activity to miles (i.e. biking, zumba, water aerobics, and more).
The race will be held from November 19th – December 17th

Coupon code: MAINTAIN ($11 value) OR a company-specific coupon code.

FAQs:

  1. You have to manually enter your miles, as it only counts intentional exercise miles (walking, biking, aerobics class). This does not include general step counting throughout your day from a FitBit, Apple Watch, etc. Intentional miles means that you go out on a walk for 1.5 miles, not that you had 3,000 steps from your regular daily activity. This keeps everyone on a level playing field.
    • If you do wear a step counter while you are intentionally going for a walk, 2,000 steps equal a mile.holiday challenge
  2. We rely on the honor system, you do not have to use a device to prove your miles – a good map suffices. To track your miles with GPS or on your phone, apples such as Google Maps or MapMyWalk are great options.
  3. Groups are NOT mandatory to join – they are just a fun addition to connect with others. Click HERE for step-by-step to create or join a group.
  4. Racery serves as a great (and judgment-free) daily reminder to be active. Feel encouraged to watch your progress on the map, especially as you pass other racers. Use this as motivation to move more!
  5. The website is very interactive. You can “like” and comment on other racer’s activity. You can motivate each other and create friendly banter and competition.
  6. Please attribute your mileage to the appropriate day – don’t combine mileage from multiple days.
  7. You do not need to download the app to participate, you can access the race page via desktop and/or app.
  8. If you finish the route early, keep submitting your miles to become an Ultramarathoner! A new leaderboard will appear and you can continue to race against other Ultramarathoners.
  9. Get some bling! Show off your accomplishments with a race postcard or bumper sticker available through Racery, the $11 coupon code means you automatically get a race bib and Facebook cover photo!
  10. Please consider registering with a personal email address if your work email address is often blocked from outside websites and emails.
  11. HAVE FUN! To see how last year’s race encouraged fitness, friendship, and fun for a group of coworkers, click here: Virtual Race Team Testimonial.
