Below is a testimonial from a current Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less participant, Paul:
“I retired from North Carolina state government in 2009 and I have participated in the Eat Smart Move More Weigh Less program three times since then and am now starting my fourth round of classes (February 2018). I have learned a tremendous amount through my participation in Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less and many of these lessons have stayed with me. I know which types of food are healthier and generally avoid sweet and salty snacks and sweetened beverages. And I have continued to exercise regularly.
I am lucky that I never had a tremendous amount of weight to lose. Each time with the 15-week program I have lost about 15 pounds (one pound per week). I have found the classes to be very well organized and informative and all of my instructors have been great. The resource materials, printed and online, are outstanding. The program gives me the incentive to diligently track my food and exercise (I have used MyFitnessPal) and stay within a reasonable calorie goal per day, without depriving myself. I know that I will be successful with the program.
This time I am more serious about trying to keep the weight off since I have experienced a significant rise in my blood pressure in the last six months and I know from experience that losing weight improves my blood pressure. Of course, I am also working with my physician on appropriate medications. I was disappointed when state government decided to stop covering Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less for state employees and retirees — I think this is short-sighted in terms of cost to the State Health Plan and will result in fewer people participating. I highly recommend Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less to anyone wanting to learn a lot about healthy eating and physical activity. The classes are fun!
