Sometimes it feels like we are constantly running in a hundred different directions. With so many things demanding your time and attention, it can be overwhelming. This is why it is essential to take a step back and make time for yourself.
Check-in, see how you are feeling, and set aside time for some self-care. Take a moment before getting out of the car (without music or looking at your phone) to check in with yourself. Use this brief pause to help you gain awareness of how you are feeling. Do you feel calm, stressed, or just overwhelmed? If it is the latter, maybe you politely decline one of your upcoming engagements and spend a relaxing evening at home instead. Even if all you have is 5 uninterrupted minutes to yourself, ask these questions:
- Am I overcommitting myself? If the answer is yes, try to find one activity or event that you can skip this week.
- Have I made time for the important people in my life? Maybe you have been meaning to call that one family member for weeks. Make the time. The people we love are more important than a busy schedule.
- Am I spending my time in a way that reflects my goals and priorities? We all have commitments, but if it feels like a majority of your time is spent on meaningless tasks, it might be time to reevaluate your schedule.
