Five ways to keep from getting sick this winter

Feed a cold starve a fever – wait, it may be the reverse. The best medicine for colds and flu are to not get sick in the first place. Cold and flu season is here. What can you do to make sure your immune system is in tiptop shape to help you fight off all the germs we come in contact with in the winter months? There are multiple over the counter pills and potions that claim to boost your immune system. Most, if not all, are without any scientific evidence. There are some steps you can take to make sure your immune system is working for you to decrease the risk of getting sick.

  1. Don’t smoke
  2. Eat a healthy diet – especially important are fruits and vegetables and whole grains
  3. Get enough sleep
  4. Exercise
  5. Wash your hands frequently (really frequently)
