“Above is a photo of my younger brother Mike and I after participating in the inaugural Turkey Day 5k through Next Generation Performance fitness center in Benson, NC.  My brother Mike was visiting from Ohio for Thanksgiving week, so we decided to participate in this 5k run on Thanksgiving morning.  It was a great way to bond as brothers and a great way to start Thanksgiving Day – by burning calories together!

As of this morning, since Thanksgiving Day I have lost over five pounds (including the few pounds I gained over Thanksgiving weekend).  My solution has been simple: exercise every morning to start my day.  I started a six-month triathlon training program on my own at Carmichael Gym here at NC State.  I have hit the gym 3-4 mornings per week at 6:30am before work and have been training for swimming in the pool, biking on a stationary bike, and running on the track.

I have also tried to eat healthier, stop when I am full, and reduce my portion sizes, which has also helped my weight loss. My goal is to be under 200 pounds again by the end of January.  This morning I was 209.4 pounds. I hope to carry my momentum from the Holiday Challenge and my training into the New Year!”  – David, Holiday Challenge Participant
