We are extremely proud to have guest blogger and Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less participant, Christine, share her weight loss journey and AMAZING transformation!

“At twelve, I weighed 150 pounds. I began dieting in high school and continued off and on throughout adulthood. Food was a friend, comforter, and stress reliever.  Physical activity, outside of household chores was non-existent.

My car served as a dining room during my daily 70 minutes commute.  There was a great deal of mindless eating at all hours of the day and night. My husband prepared most of our meals and he is a great “fry” cook.  Reading labels, what was that?  Needless to say, my health was failing; hypertension, high cholesterol, edema and fatigue. Welcome to the world of doctors and medication.

Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less was the beginning of a healthier me. After incorporating many of the life changing recommendations presented by the program, I am now 70 pounds thinner, normal cholesterol level and blood pressure medication reduced to once every other day.

Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less has been the catalyst for a cultural shift in our department.  A bowl of fruit has replaced the department candy dish.  The department’s refrigerator is now stocked with water instead of sugary drinks.  We bring healthy lunches from home instead of buying fast food.  We encourage each other to read food labels, try new foods, exercise, and get appropriate rest. We hold each other accountable for making healthy choices.

I enjoy walking 4-5 times a week.  Mindless eating while driving has been eliminated by storing snacks and groceries in the trunk.  Eliminating certain foods from your diet isn’t necessary— just modify your cooking style, portion sizes and the time you dine.  Be mindful, keep moving, and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.”
